Saba was our care-receiver from 2021 to 2023, when he battled hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and severe hematological disease, and epilepsy, the secondary disease to HLH. He has managed to deal with these illnesses. But in January of this year, Saba was diagnosed with cancer.
When Saba was diagnosed with HLH, he was a 4th grade student at the Nizhny Novgorod Orthodox Gymnasium named after Sergius of Radonezh, a co-host of the Conversation with Priest program on the Nizhny Novgorod Orthodox radio Obraz. Since November 2019, he was treated in clinics of Istanbul and spent a total of 11 months in intensive care. Saba has undergone 2 brain shunts, two courses of dialysis to restore his kidneys, 14 courses of plasmapheresis to restore the liver function, drainage of the lungs and abdominal cavity, and the tracheostomy surgery. Saba was intubated twice.
Now he is being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He has completed 2 courses of chemotherapy. There are still 9 months of treatment ahead. The clinic issued an invoice for the treatment. This is a big additional expense. The family does not have that amount, while it is very important that Saba’s treatment is not interrupted. They require EUR 60,600.
