June 2016
Dear friends!
The summer season has started! During it, just as during Christmas, we tend to dream and make great plans. Let us achieve all of our bravest and purest dreams with the help of God!
Two years ago at the coordinators event we made a plan to have a big international Day of the Orthodox Volunteer, which will be held for the second time in Germany this year. To this date it is the only platform where volunteer groups and charitable organisations from the FSU, Europe, Israel, England and America can meet up, exchange experience, establish contacts and form bonds of helping each other. This year we are holding it in Munich, 1st-3rd of July. Everyone involved in benevolence and volunteering is heartily welcome to come, absorb experience and be a part of the communal deed of helping others! More information and registration can be found on our site orthodiakonia.de
Our achievements in May:
Andrjusha Dmitriev from Donetsk, 9 y., back injury, has arrived in Bonn for his treatment. Last year, with the help of the diakonia, 20 thousand euros were collected for him and transferred to the clinic. He is facing a prolongued treatment including getting a prothesis, so that he would be able to stand up from his wheelchair once more. Thank you to our colleagues in Ukraine and our volunteers in Hamburg, Cologne and Bonn for the organisation and for supporting this family!
Three families in Saint Petersburg have received support: money has been sent to the families of Markov and Alekseev and six months worth of medical supply has been purchased for the severely ill child in the family of Belishev.
We have been able to pay for the treatment of Eldar Eldarov, 12y, ICP, in the clinic of Ratingen and the accomodation for Natasha Dalmatova, 11y, brain tumour, in Berlin.
This was only possible because of your help!
I want to join in with the mother of Eldar, as she expresses her thanks:
I am Asiyat Eldarova, mother of Eldar. I want to thank you for supporting us, thank you. May God give you and your family health as well as strength to continue doing good deeds. Yesterday we visited the clinic for a checkup. I prayed to God that it would happen and God helped through you. I will only be able to thank you for your help in prayers…Thank you very much.
Our children in June:
Varechka Shelyagina from Kazachstan, 3 y., Retinoblastoma (cancer of the retina) is in need of our help once more. The little child has survived many chemo therapies, removal of an eye, laser therapy, relapse and remission. The parents are fighting for the life of their daughter and her eye. For the trip to another checkup at the start of July in the clinic of Essen she needs 800 euro.
Bogdan Belashov from the Donetsk region, 3 y., was born with the Crouzon syndrome, which prevents the skull from growing normally. If the child doesn’t get an operation on the temple of the head in the immediate future, he awaits a slow and painful death, as the functions of the body will stop working: speaking, walking, eating, breathing…If the operation is carried out a couple of time, according to the growth of the child, he could live a fulfilling life. Mother and Grandmother are trying to save their dear Bogdanchik! For the operation special sheets are needed which cost 331 thousand hrn., around 10 thousand euro.
Ilya Spinov, 13 y., leukemia, from Moscow, has a rare and very dangerous early recidivism. He needs an immediate and unusual treatment as well as a transplant of bone marrow. His only chance is to go abroad. Ilya has spent around two years under drips in clinics and sterile boxes. Despite all of that he continues to enjoy life, writes poems and tries to feed the squirrels on the rare walks outside. We believe that with Gods help and our support he will conquer the illness! The clinic of Kiel is ready to accept Ilya for 345 thousand. I ask you for your help!
We also require help with the transportation of donated medicinal technology needed for children and adults in Russia, Ukraine, Belorus, Kazachstan. If you are travelling from Germany to any of these countries and have luggage space for a wheelchair or crutches, you can offer your help over email to contact@orthodiakonia.de or by phone: 017630746958, do a good deed!
HURRY TO DO GOOD!
Many hugs,
Yours Alina Titova
