January 2016
Dear friends!
Congratulations with all the feasts just past! Let the New Year 2016 be better than the past one.
As usual, I give a short report for the past year.
With your aid, we have helped to 34 kids with funds and organization. Thank you for your kind heart!
Yet more sick kids and adults, and their families, have gotten the volunteer support. Thank you, dear volunteers!
To strengthen our volunteer work and collaboration network with our colleagues over the world, we have realized several new projects. We have held the Day of Orthodox Volunteer – first in Germany – that was attended by 70 volunteer aid workers from 4 countries. We have organized а visit of seven sisters of mercy from St. Dmitry school in Moscow to German retirement houses and hospitals. Thank you, all organizers and helpers!
We have collected about EUR 85.000 and spent about EUR 77.000.
From this, EUR 69.000 went to pay the medical bills of the children we halp. The sum of about EUR 7.000 has been spent on support of families with sick children that are in harsh circumstances.
The organization and development of Diakonia costed about EUR 900.
We have managed to attract EUR 93.000 from German charity funds.
A summary of December achievements:
- We have held charity bazaars and events in Munich, Cologne, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Krefeld.
- Owing to income from bazaars, we could strongly decrease the shortage of funds required for Andrey D. from Enakievo, Dontesk region, 9 y.o., with shrapnel in his spine, and pay off the bills for medical treatment and rehabilitation of an Essen conservatory student Daria G., who had a tragic accident at first day of her studies in Germany.
- We have found a sponsor for many-children Kochnov family from Donetsk, at least for 6 month. Two from three children in the family are ill. Vanechka, 4 y.o., suffers from cerebral palsy, a crushing headache, and convulsions. He needs medication to stop the pain and convulsions. Though the sponsorship found is only EUR 80 p.m., we hope it permits to start the medical examination and initial treatment of the children. To survive with the kids, the family requires EUR 200 p.m.
So we are searching for more funds for this family. - Many reacted on the grave situation of Pelin family from Ukraine, where two children, Victoria of 12 y.o. and Artem, 2 y.o. suffer from a severe genetic kidney disease. The doctors in Ukraine refuse to treat Victoria: she would die if gets home. We are helping in bureaucratic struggle for German living and working permits. We would be eager to get a permanent sponsor for the family.
- Thank you for the support of the family of Maxim Balyuk, 13 y.o., from the city Monastyrischsche, Ukraine, diagnosed with relapsing neuroblastoma. He is being treated in the Cologne university clinic.
- For Vlad S., 24 y.o, from Izhevsk, testicular cancer, metastasis into the lungs, we have collected EUR 3700 and paid to the Cologne university clinic. Yet EUR 14.000 more is required.
Our new children to help:
- Artem L. from Kazakhstan, 3 y.o., diagnosis: spastic paraparesis, left side of the body atrophied. He cannot walk though stands up. He requires EUR 4665 for a 3-week rehabilitation course in the hospital of Ratingen.
- Igor S. from Ekaterinburg, 10 y.o., 4th degree neuroblastoma. His treatment in Cologne university clinic comes with price tag of EUR 150.000. His family has managed to raise EUR 70.000. He needs EUR 80.000 more.
- Maxim D. from Kyiv, 7 y.o., medulloblastoma. The child is undergoing a tratment in Asklepios clinic, Hamburg. The surgery to remove the tumor was a success. The chemotherapy required after the surgery costs EUR 77.000. The German charity funds promise EUR 15.000. We still need to find EUR 62.000.
From a letter of his mother:
Maxim is a gifted child, he easily achieves everything he strives to.
He was selected for a prestigious youth soccer school. He was never seriously ill. Now he does not understand what is going on. They made a cut in his head, put a tube to his body, his arms and legs are punctured by numerous catheters. He can not walk nor sit. The left hand hardly works. He suffers from permanent nausea. Each day is a battle for him. Despite of this, he talks of future, and his eyes at that moment radiate confidence that everything will be back to normal.
HURRY TO DO GOOD!
