January 2015
Dear friends!
New Year has started. Let us have a peaceful and happy year full of new opportunities!
In front of you is our list of children for the first month of this year:
Artem Kovalev, 7 y. ICP. Regular readers of our newsletter know the story of this boy from a city in Altai really well by now. You remember how last year a fairy in form of a Munich company magically appeared and supplied Artem with the necessary money to afford a special velo trainer. A few months later it was transported over to Russia. It arrived right on his birthday! The velo trainer has been a wonderful gift – the muscles of this young hero have strengthen and the doctors now think that he will be able to walk again! Obviously, Artem and his mum strongly believe in it as well. In order to realise this dream, the child needs a special walking trainer. Again, we ask for help! We are looking for a trainer or the money to buy one in Russia (around 260 thousand RUB).
Dasha Zavaruhina, 11 y. ICP, kidney malfunction. We are all also familiar with Dasha- in the clinic of Langen she has gone through an operation of her hip joints. To finalise the treatment, which will enable her to walk herself, as well as to get a diagnostic and start the treatment for her kidney malfunction, which has gotten worse, she needs 16 400 euros. There have been a few times already where her hospitalisation was moved to a later date because of financial struggles. Her situation is critical now and she can’t wait any longer! She is awaited in a german clinic on the 21st of February.
Denis Krasnikov, 11 y. ICP, double dislocation of the hip joints. Denis, just like Artem and Dasha, dreams of walking! For that he is going through an operation in Aschau. German doctors believe that he will be able to walk after this operation! But for this he will need special equipment, that he will wear on the hip joints before the operation. They are not cheap – 14 thousand euros. 73 thousand roubles have already been collected. At today’s rate it’s around 1 thousand euros. Unfortunately, because of the unstable exchange rate, the roubles are melting in front of our eyes. The child will already need the orthesis by the end of February!
Yana Labun, 4 years, heart disease. A couple of operations on the heart, regular inspections in the german clinic Asklepios and the constant intake of expensive medications, enable the child from Siberia to live and develop normally, even with such difficulties. In December 2014 the community of Saint Martyrers Elisabeth and Alexandra helped to finance the travel and medication expenses. As a result of the most recent diagnostic, Yana has to have an unplanned extra operation on which her life depends. The sum is 37 850. It has to be collected by the 20th of April.
Lera Procenko, 20 months, ICP, partial atrophy of the visual nerves. The child from Lugansk needs a diagnostic and neurological rehabilitation. Due to the false actions of the clinic personnel, she got a brain edema, which led to the earlier stated diagnosis. Up until now she has not received any treatment. She can’t wait until Ukraine’s medical services run as usual again – the sooner she receives treatment, the less she will lag behind in development. The orthodox community of Saarbrucken, who took care of the child, is asking for financial support. The necessary sum for treatment in Germany is 5360 euro. As of the 03.01.15, 2002 euros have been collected. Another 3000 are necessary.
A few words about the children you are already helping!
Twin brothers Sasha and Pasha Sanjukevich, 5 years (ICP) from Grodno, Belarus, are about to travel to Bonn for a consultation about the right medication that they need to use against their epilepsy. After that they face an operation and a hard rehabilitation.
Kostja Kovalev, 4 years (AIDS) from an orphanage in Omsk, is coming to Frankfurt for a diagnostic in a few weeks. His care parent and resuscitator are coming with him, because his situation is getting worse. We are all hoping that the properly chosen medications will put him back upon his feet. The boy will go through a long treatment in Germany. I would be very grateful for any empathy with the difficult fate of this child.
Dasha Parhomenko, 7 years (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis with eye lesion) from Omsk has gone through operations in the clinic of Aachen. The doctors are happy with the results. Against the predictions of the Russian doctors, the German clinic gives good chances that Dasha’s eyesight will be restored!
The Christmas benevolence markets, held by Diakonia groups in many german cities, have not only allowed us to collect 3 thousand euros, but also filled our rows with new volunteers! Thank you to all organisers and participants!
The action of collecting humanitarian aid for Ukranian children has been completed. Together we collected 120 cubic meters of warm clothes, stationary, bed sheets, baby food, diapers and toys. The collected material is on its way to orphanages and care homes in the regions of Kharkov, Zaporozhie, Lugansk and Donetsk. As soon as we get confirmations about receiving the goods, I will distribute the information on our website and send out an email.
