May 2016
Dear friends!
I wish you all a great Easter Feast!
These days we want to believe more than usual that we are all saved, and there is no death ahead, neither the suffering behind …
Thanks to everyone who seeks to be more alive right now!
Thank you for your help!
Our achievements in April:
The funds became available for the treatment in Charite clinics of Natalya Dolmatova from Perm, 11 y.o, brain cancer. The money raised at our charity bazaars will be spend on the housing for her family in Berlin during the treatment.
We have collected the funds required for the rehabilitation of Levon Avagdzhan, 3 y.o., cerebral palsy arrested psychomotoric and speech development, in the rehabilitation center “Rodnik” in St. Petersburg. The child should start the procedures in the end of May.
We have paid for the prosthesis and treatment in the Bonn clinic to archpriest Nicolai (diabetes, amputation)
We have paid for the housing for the period of treatment to Nikita Kucherenko from Mikolaev, 15 y.o, serebral palsy, and to Kostya Kovalev from Moscow, 6 y.o., tracheostomy.
Our new kids:
Lisa Rasdolska from Ukraine, 11 y.o, primary hyperoxaluria, requires transplantation of kidney and possibly liver. The doctors from Minsk are ready to make the surgery. However, for a successful operation they need the tests that can be done only in Germany. Yet a year ago, Lisa went in school, played piano, and was a happy child. The kidney failure has bounded her to the dialysis bed. The analyses are needed urgently: the girl is suffering. The amount required: EUR 1700.
Alexander Skripilyov, 17 y.o., from Oryol, Russia, neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation and many accompanied disorders, is invited for rehabilitation to Heiligen, Germany. Nobody in Russia can help a patient with such a diagnosis. The precise diagnostics and 1,5 month of rehabilitation will cost EUR 12,500. The medical equipment required to keep him in a condition would add EUR 6,000 to the bill. That is not what the single mother and her handicapped son can afford. We ask for your help.
Ilya Markoidze, 13 y.o., cerebral palsy, form Mariupol, Ukraine, was born healthy. The negligence of the medical personnel has brought him to coma that he has barely survived. His mother (a teacher) and grandmother struggle for his recuperation. The regular rehabilitation courses bring the noticeable results: Ilya has learned to sit on his own and can walk with a support. The next course would be in the international clinics of Truskavetz, Ukraine. Yet the family needs EUR 900.
Anna Smolchenko from Moscow is pregnant with a baby who has been already diagnosed with a grave heart disorder. The baby requires a heart surgery immediately after the birth. The parents have decided to save the child, and let the surgery done in German Asklepios clinic, where the chance to survive is ten times bigger than in the leading Russian hospitals. The funds required: EUR 34,850 by July 1st.
Finally, I would like to share the main news of Diakonia:
Like in the past year, we invite everybody for our Orthodox Volunteer Day, to be held in the first Saturday of July.
In 2016 this day is July 2nd, the day of commemoration of St. John of Sahngai, a great saint of XX century, that gave us an example of serving our neighbor. The convention of German Diakonia groups as well as volunteer organizations from other countries will be held in Munich on July 1-3, on the premises of the Cathedral of the Holy New-Martyrs and Confessors of Russia and St. Nicholas. The convention will be devoted to the psychological aspects of volunteer activities and the support of the volunteers in their work with the patients. The updates and registration form can be found at our website.
