What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

It is already for years that a number of parishes of Russian Orthodox Church in Germany help to foreign children and their parents that come to Germany for a medical treatment. Usually these children are gravely sick. The parents – usually mothers – come to Germany from Russia, Ukraine, White Russia and other countries to find themselves in harsh, often unbearable conditions. They cannot speak the language. They cannot get a good advice. They have no friends or acquaintances.

It would be good if this initiative that is so natural for our churches in Germany, grows and spreads to all parishes of both German dioceses. Service to neighbor – diaconia in Greek – is a natural continuation of the Divine Liturgy. May God dispose that this work always finds the worthy workers!
