FEBRUARY 2018
Dear friends, the spring is coming soon!
Winter retreats, the forces in Nature awaken, a hope for new life emerges.
We have worked well in the winter. With your help, we have closed several hot requests and needs of our care-receivers. A low bow to you from all of them.
At the moment, we have only a single request.
Those who are with Diakonia for long, know the family from my letters dated back to 2015. This big family is from Donetsk. Two from three chilren are seriously ill: Ivan, 5 y.o., cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia, delayed psychomotoric development, partial atrophy of the optic nerves, episyndrom and Luka, 4 y.o., bronchial asthma of 3rd degree, pulmonary hypertension. The situation in Donetsk remains grave for many years. The parents hung on and did all possible and impossible for their kids. They found the opportunities for their treatment in other cities as well as locally, rose funds for medecine, and various roller walkers and verticalizers, they did themselves what they could not be helped with on the spot.
From the letter of the mother
The situation is worse than in 2015. We still live in Donensk renting the same house. In our house the roof is closed, this makes it the end. They took everything from there and destroyed the hearth. The house is covered with mold. The children cannot live there since this would be a health hazard. The humanitarian help in form of food does not come anymore. The prices soared. Our landlords want to sell the house. If this happens – I am scared to think of it – we have no place to live. We often think of moving to Russia.
In Russia, there are good social programs to help big families and disabled children. My husband could earn normal wages. However, to start the procedures of obtaining Russian citizenship, one first need a registration address in Russia. We need a small house in Rostov region: this would cost about $ 10,000. This sky-high sum is unreachable for us.
This is how we survive now. At the same time, we understand that Damir is already in 5th grade, Vanaya will go to school soon, and Luka will follow him soon. And how we would teach them? The only bread-winner is my husband. Now he works in a forestry for 3 euro for day!!! I cannot work since I have to stay with Vanya and, if there is an opportunity, accompany him for rehabilitation courses. Lately, Luke stays home very often, since asthma hits him. This is our situation. Sincerely, Natalia Kochnova.
For moving to Russia and purchasing a house there Kochnovs require about EUR 10,000. Let us give to this heroic family a chance for new life!
Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
HURRY TO DO GOOD!
With much love,
Yours Alina
